OUPV Licenses


Operator of Uninspected Passeneger Vessels (Six Pack) license allows you to carry up to six

paying persons for hire on a small uninspected vessel, under 100 gross tons. Normally the

vessel is used for fishing, diving or sightseeing charters and is limited to six passengers plus

the captain and crew member(s).

OUPV Near Coastal License

This license allows the operator to carry up to six passengers for hire on an uninspected

vessel under 100 gross tons offshore out to 100 nautical miles.

For uninspected vessels on inland waters and up to 100 miles offshore

carrying 6 or fewer passengers

 

Requires 360 days of experience since you were age 15 with at least 90 days

In the last 3 years.

 

The minimum offshore time required is 90 days.

 

You must be at least 18 years of age.

 

U.S. Citizenship is not required.

 

You must have a Social Security Number.

OUPV Inland License


This license is for operators of  vessels inshore of the boundary lines and excludes the

Great Lakes.

For uninspected vessels on inland waters carrying 6 or fewer passengers

Requires 360 days of experience since you were age 15 with at least 90 days

In the last 3 years.

 

No offshore experience is required.

 

You must be at least 18 years of age.

 

U.S. Citizenship is not required.

 

You must have a Social Security Number.

Requirements

  • Age 18 or over

          Physical, drug test and eye exam

  • CPR/First Aid training
  • Successful completion of the OUPV course and testing during our course, not USCG!
  • Sea service- may be counted on your vessel or someone else's vessel. You will need 
  • a sea service form for each vessel as well as proof of vessel ownership.
  • You will have one year from passing of your course and exam to submit your fees and
  • credentials to the USCG for review. Once approved by the USCG, you will receive your
  • license.


 

What We Do

Boating Safety is important to ALL boaters.  Even if you don't own a boat, but occasionally go out as a passenger on a boat, you should know what to do in case of emergency or the Captain becomes incapacitated.

News and Events

All Children 12 years of age or younger must wear a PFD whenever they are on a vessel that is underway unless they are in a fully enclosed, non-removable cabin.  Also person riding a PWC or water skiing, must wear an approved PWC.

New Jersey Law - No One under the age of 16 is permitted to operate a Personal Watercraft - Persons 13 to 15 years old may operate a vessel powered by an electric trolling motor, or a vessel 12 feet or longer powered by less than 10 total horsepower, if they successfully completed an approved boating safety course and have the certificate in their possession.
